William J. Murphy, Sr. of Whitman, formerly of South Weymouth, died May 9, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 58. Bill worked as a truck driver for the Manfi Leasing Company. He was a member of both the Whitman Knights of Columbus Council 347 and the Sons of Whitman VFW Post 697. He enjoyed golfing and playing horseshoes. Bill was a devoted family man who will be remembered for his wit and sense of humor.
Beloved husband of 24 years to Jane (Cruickshanks) Murphy of Whitman. Devoted father of William J. Murphy, Jr. and Sarah J. Murphy, both of Whitman. Cherished son of the late James and Mary Murphy. Loving brother of James G. Murphy, Jr. of Whitman, Kevin B. Murphy of Rockland, Matthew T. Murphy of Hanson, Regina M. Mitchell of South Weymouth, Beth A. Murphy of Pembroke and Christine E. Cundari of Whitman. Son-in-law of Marjorie A. Cruickshanks and the late Robert Cruickshanks, Jr. of South Weymouth. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital) Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of William may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 1309 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02446.
