William H. Sweeney

Sweeney, William H.  “Bill” of Hingham formerly of South Boston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family June 6, 2014.

Son of the late Bernard T. and Frances A. (Fitzgerald) Sweeney. Beloved husband of 52 years of Rita “Lorraine” (Richardson) Sweeney of Hingham.  Loving father of Kerry Mowry and her husband Chris of Morristown, NJ and Bill Sweeney and his wife Margo of Somersworth, NH.  Cherished grandfather of Sean Mowry, Allison and Libby Sweeney.  Dear brother of Matthew of Dorchester, Elaine McGuire of South Boston, Donald of Hyde Park,and the late Bernard, Eleanor, John, Robert and Brian Sweeney. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the DAV, Fitzgerald Post, the “Thursday Knights” as well as the Black Rock Country Club.  Bill retired as a superintendent  at The Boston Gas Company where he worked for 43 years. Bill was a proud graduate of The High School of Commerce and Northeastern University.  He loved to fish, golf and play racquetball.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the South Boston Boys and Girls Club, 230 West Sixth Street, South Boston, MA 02127.
