William D. King

King William D. (Bill) of Hingham passed away on Wednesday, April 27 at the age of 87. He met his wife Cynthia (Cindy) Kay on Cape Cod. They were married in 1957 and raised four children in Needham and Wellesley. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his brother, Richard and sister-in-law Cynthia of Savannah, and three sons, Dana (Arlene), Douglas (Mary), and David (Tammy) and his daughter, Deborah O’Connor (Scott). He leaves nine wonderful grandchildren.

Bill grew up in Newton, MA. He graduated from Governor Dummer Academy (now The Governor’s Academy), and he attended Brown University. He left school to join the Army. After his second basic training, he was assigned to the Honor Guard in Washington, DC. His next assignment was to Korea.

Bill spent his working life in the investment business, first at Draper, Sears in Boston until the company was taken over by E. F. Hutton. After several takeovers he retired from Smith Barney.

Bill led an active life. He played hockey with fellow workers at the Boston Skating Club until he was 65 years old. He skied with his family at Loon Mountain. After he retired, he and Cindy moved to their vacation home in Meredith, NH where Bill raced Hobie Cats. He played golf at Laconia Country Club. After all that activity he enjoyed sitting on his deck looking across the Lake at the Belknap Mountains.

The family service will be private.
