William D. “Dan” Burke of South Boston, Weymouth and Braintree, passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2024. He was 88 years old.
Born in South Boston, Dan was the eldest son of the late William J. and Mary Burke (Barrett). Dan was a graduate of South Boston High School Class of 1952. He was a printer by trade and ran a 5 Color Press. He took great pride in his work. Dan loved gambling and going to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed reading the Boston Herald, enjoying a Marlou’s coffee and indulging on chocolate. Dan liked to cook on the grill, read books and had fond memories of travels with his wife Mary. His greatest love was his family and especially time spent with his grandchildren.
Loving husband of the late Mary (Conroy) Kennedy-Burke. Beloved father to Christine Quarterone, Karen Nelson of Abington, Theresa Kennedy of Boston, John “Jack” Kennedy and his wife Mary of Weymouth, Edward Kennedy and his wife Colleen of Weymouth, Elizabeth (Kennedy) Beatty of FL, James Kennedy and his wife Stacy of FL. Dear brother of Paul Burke and his wife Joni of South Boston and Rita Burke of South Boston and Braintree. Dan was predeceased by three children; Joseph, Robert and Mary Kennedy and his siblings; Helen Larsen (Burke), Mary Flaherty (Burke), John and Robert Burke. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday 1/18 from 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Clare’s Church, Braintree on 1/19 at 11:30 AM. Burial to follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan.
Donations in memory of Dan may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
