Raymer, William C. “Lefty” of N. Weymouth formerly of Quincy. Beloved husband Mary D. Taylor of N. Weymouth and the late Janet (Costello). Loving father of John W. Raymer of Braintree, William C. Raymer, Jr. of E. Milton, Peter R. Raymer of ME, Barbara M. Smith of Harvard and Joseph D. Taylor of CT. Brother of Miriam Coombs, Isabelle Doyle, both of Quincy and the late Robert Raymer. Devoted grandfather of Kelly of Braintree, Michael of TX and Rachel of CT. Great grandfather of Dillon of TX. Lefty was known for his musical abilities and love of family and friends. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Alabama during the height of the war in the Pacific Ocean. He was awarded medals from the Asian Pacific, Phillipine Liberation, American and European African Areas. He often said of his service, “I did it for my country.” He was one of the heroes written about by Tom Brokaw in his book, “The Greatest Generation.” Lefty is a member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks, Knights of Columbus Council #2259 and Crewman Association of the USS Alabama. He often performed onstage for many local charities. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Thursday at 8:15 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint John’s Church, Quincy at 9 AM. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 PM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Mr. Raymer may be made to Quincy Elks Scholarship Fund, c/o Charlie Doherty, 254 Quarry St. Quincy, MA 02169.
