It is with deep regret we announce the death of William P. “Bill” Lanergan on Feb. 18, 2011. Bill was 67. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Diane (Flaherty) Lanergan of South Weymouth. Loving father of William C. Lanergan, QPD and his wife Lori of Quincy and Jennifer Lanergan and her companion Danyelle Marshall of South Weymouth. Grandfather of William A. and Jonathan R. Lanergan. Brother of Rita C. Hess and her husband Paul of Weymouth. Uncle of Paul Hess of Abington and William Hess of Canada. Bill was O.F.D. ( originally from Dorchester) before moving to Quincy and finally settling in South Weymouth for many years. A graduate of Christopher Columbus High School and Northeastern University, receiving his degree in criminal justice. Bill served his country in the United States Army for six years. His service included a year in Korea and two years in Vietnam. It was in Vietnam that Bill was awarded a Bronze Star for his work in Operation Cedar Falls in the Iron Triangle. Bill was a disabled Veteran. A retired police officer from the City of Quincy, serving in many capacities. The last twenty two years as a Detective. Bill worked on many important cases over those years, but the one that was the most significant was the Adams Mansion Library heist of the rare books. Together with his partner, they were able to recover the books and the person responsible was brought to justice. Over the years Bill received many commendations, he was also specially trained in fire investigations working with the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Quincy Fire Department. Bill will surely be missed by all those who loved him. Jennifer’s message “ I Love You, Dad”. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 4-8 pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St. Quincy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15am prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
