McKinnon, Warren “Hop” P., of Hull, died at home on September 3, 2021 at age 98. Born in Weymouth to the late Joseph and Susan McKinnon, Warren graduated from Weymouth High School where he played football and baseball. He was a proud WWII Army veteran, serving as an anti-aircraft sergeant in the European Theater. After the war, Warren graduated from Tufts University, where he continued to compete in football and baseball. At Tufts, he was President of his class, Captain of the football team, on the Board of Director of Athletics, and a member of Student Council, Varsity Club and several honorary societies including Tower Cross. Later he earned his Master’s in Education. He spent his career as a teacher, Assistant Principal and coach for South Junior High School in Weymouth and taught teachers for two years in Tanzania. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, swimming, singing, dancing, clam digging, tennis, coaching and cheering for his favorite football teams. Warren was a gifted MC, delighting crowds with songs, sing-a-longs, and his specialty: custom lyrics to popular songs, tailored to the occasion.
Beloved husband of 71 years to the late Ella A. McKinnon of Hull. Loving mother of Susan E. Duke and the late Brian J. McKinnon. Proud grandfather of Marisa Roth and her fiancé Eric Peterson, Allison Duke and her husband Joseph Sarage, Brennan Duke, Rhiannon Duke and her fiancé Campbell Lozuaway-McComsey. Loving great grandfather of Noah, Eli and Seamus Peterson. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his 8 siblings; Fred McKinnon, Ronald McKinnon, Flora Roach, Loretta Canfield, Joseph McKinnon, Leo McKinnon, Margaret Sorrento and Allan McKinnon.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11:00am in St. Ann Church, 208 Samoset Ave., Hull, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Warren’s name to Weymouth High School, Athletic Gift Account, 1 Wildcat Way, Weymouth, MA 02190, c/o Robert O’Leary Athletic Director.
