Mr. Warren E. Houghton, 92, of Squantum, MA, died Tuesday, December 09, 2008 at Quincy Medical Center. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 1, 1916, and lived there until he moved to Brockton, MA, graduating from Brockton High School in 1934. Warren graduated from Boston University’s College of Business Administration, majoring in accounting and finance. He was employed with Southgate & Co. in Boston as a stockbroker with the New York Stock Exchange. Later, he worked as a Comptroller for the Ford Motor Company. He retired from the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission where he worked as their Chief Accountant. Warren was very proud of his military service. He entered WWII as a private and attended Officer Candidate School at Camp Lee, in Virginia. He was commissioned and assigned to the 3rd Air Force, Drew Field, Tampa, FL, where he was assigned to the staff of the base commander. Later, Warren was assigned as the 1st Lt. in charge of the Air Sea Crash Boat Squandron for the entire coast of Florida. He was promoted to Captain in the Army Air Corps, where he was the staff officer in charge of Supervision of Base Supplies. At the end of WWII, he was transferred to the Air Force Reserve, and after completing 20 additional years of service, Warren retired as a major in ther Air Force Reserve. Warren loved the ocean and living in Squantum, MA. He helped initiate the original Boy Scout Troop 24 and enjoyed camping with the scouts. He was an original member of the 1st Parish Council of Star of the Sea Church. He was an avid ham-radio operator (WA1CBI), speaking with people across the globe. He loved ice-skating and swimming and boating at Orchard Beach. He enjoyed going for walks and long bike rides with Mary, his loving wife of 65 years. Warren is survived by his wife, Mary M. Houghton; his two sons, Richard and Donald Houghton of Quincy; his sister June Sullivan of Rockport, MA; daughter-in-laws, Lynne Houghton of Quincy and Rosemary Houghton of Waterville, ME; four grandchildren, Richard, Sarah, Beth, Charles and one great granddaughter Sarianna; sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and Charles Hopkins of Milton and Charles Dornan of Brockton; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Life Celebration Service in Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY, Friday at 8:30 AM. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Visitation prior to Mass. Burial in Milton Cemetery, Milton.
