Walter T. Barrett

Barrett, Walter T. “Wally” of Weymouth, passed away on October 17, 2023. He was 84.

Born in Boston in 1939, he was the son to the late Walter and Rita (Bell) Barrett.

Walter, better known as W.W., “Wonderful Wally,” or “Worldwide Wally,” was the unofficial Mayor of Idlewell. Wally would typically be seen sitting in a chair in his driveway, waving and talking to neighbors. He loved to travel with his late wife, Shirley, to Vegas, Florida, and Newport as well as his daily trips to Previte’s Marketplace. Wally was a kind and loving man, who truly thought of others before himself. He was known to hand out candy and cash tips to family, friends, neighbors, and nurses. Wally loved his dog, Captain Morgan, who predeceased him in April. He would constantly keep dog treats in his pocket for any K-9 companion that crossed his path. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Loving husband to the late Shirley A. Barrett (Parker). Cherished father to Kelly Barrett, Tracy Sanborn and her husband Shane. Step father to Kimberley Howlett Phillips and her husband Dana, Robin Howlett, Jack Howlett and his wife Lisa, and Heidi Williams. Proud Papa to Corey Fiasconaro and his wife Haley, Paige Burke, Sean Lally, Crystal, Vanessa, Harley, Michael, Trenton, Max, Lucas, Rachel, Jenna and Jade. Brother to Rita Barrett and the late Carolyn Wetterberg and her late husband Leonard. Beloved friends Nora Walsh and her husband John. Companion to his late rescue pup, Captain Morgan. Also survived by many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be celebrated directly following the visiting hours at 12:30 PM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Donations in Wally’s name may be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter, 780 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy, Scituate, MA 02066.
