Walter Justin Wigmore, Jr., age 85 of Squantum, MA and Weare, NH, died peacefully May 15, 2010, in Quincy, MA. Born in Weymouth and raised in Hingham, he is survived by his loving wife Virginia (Wallick) and was the son of the late Walter J. and Margaret (Joyce). He was the cherished and patient father of MaryBeth Hill of VT and her late husband Hollis, Celeste Vento and her husband Anthony of S. Weymouth and Justine Hebert and her husband Ernest of NH. Beega was a doting grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He also leaves two stepchildren, Stephen Wallick of WA and Leslie Roberts of CA. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Barrett of Leominster, nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by two wives, Therese Hughes and Maxine Armstrong. A decorated US Navy veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific theater he was a plankholder of the destroyer escort, USS Hissem. He retired as a microwave engineer from New England Telephone after 40 years. A former stalwart and fundraiser for the Star of the Sea Church in Squantum, a former member of the Squantum Yacht Club, the Quincy Power Squadron and American Legion Post 65. Walter touched countless lives, with his kindness and his consistently positive outlook. He was a lover of the sea, an avid traveler and especially enjoyed the laughter, chaos and commotion that came with every family get together. Walter’s constant whistling, no matter the roadblocks, along with his quick wit, will be missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Walter may be made to Fr. Bill’s Place, 38 Broad St., Quincy, MA 02169.
