Holmes, Walter E., Sr. of Quincy and former long time resident of Weymouth, died January 10, 2006. Born in Brockton, MA, he was the son of the late Edward and Wanda (Brooks) Holmes. Beloved husband of the late Doris (Connolly) Holmes. Devoted father of Walter E. Holmes, Jr. of Dorado, PR and Carol Ann McLachlan of Norwell, MA. Loving brother of Donald Holmes of Briny Breezes, FL and the late Thomas Holmes. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Walter was a Supervisor of the Gillette Safety Razor Co. and retired in 1985 with over 40 years of service. At Walter Sr.’s request, visiting hours have been omitted. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass in Saint Joseph’s Church, 550 Washington St. Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth. Walter was a supervisor of the Gillette Safety Razor Co. and retired in 1985 with over 40 years of service. After his retirement, he earned his Associate Degree at Massasoit Community College by continuing his education and taking evening courses. Walter was a former member of the Weymouth Elks, the John P. McKeon Post, No. 146 AMVETS, and many years prior the Weymouth South Little League. Walter was a contributor and volunteer with the Weymouth Elks Dream Come True Fund, which benefits seriously, chronically, and terminally ill children. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. Walter also enjoyed reading and photography. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter E. Holmes, Sr. may be made to Weymouth Elks Dream Come True Fund, PO Box 125, Weymouth, MA 02190.
