Virginia N. Lewiecki

Virginia Ann Newton Lewiecki, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2017 at Rose Court in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Virginia was the beloved wife of Edward M. Lewiecki, with whom she recently celebrated 73 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of, and is survived by, five children including E. Michael Lewiecki, Jr. and his wife Maura; Sally L. Mayo; James Lewiecki and his wife Meg Nelson; David Lewiecki, and John Lewiecki and his wife Libby Emerson Lewiecki. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kathrine Lewiecki, Amy Buono, Brendon Lewiecki, Max Mayo, Marisa Lewiecki, Sarah Lewiecki, Ian Lewiecki, Caroline Lewiecki, Bryce Lewiecki, Kyle Lewiecki, and Emmet Lewiecki.  She is also survived by several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Virginia was predeceased by her four older sisters: Annette Hopkins, Merta Tyler, Dorothy Westmoreland, and a brother, Clay Newton Jr., as well as a grandchild, Kerry Adam Lewiecki.

Ginny was active with family, sports, travel, and civic volunteering. A descendent of English settlers who arrived in America in the late 1600’s, she grew up in Gainesville, Texas, and met her husband Ed in 1943 at Camp Howze. They married just before he deployed to Europe during World War II. During the war Ginny volunteered for the American Red Cross as a Gray Lady, providing non-medical services to needy individuals. During this time she also established a nest egg for Ed’s return. After the war Ginny and Ed resided in several states as they started their family and in 1954 they settled in Hingham, where they have lived for 63 years.

Ginny was very active in volunteering, especially for the Hingham Visiting Nurse Association, Hingham Mother’s Club, Doric Dames, Hingham Garden Club and the Florence Crittenden League. In addition to guiding her children in various activities, Ginny found time to become an accomplished bridge player, compete on the tennis court, practice her golf swing; go bowling, skiing, and ice skating.  She also enjoyed being a member of the Hingham Yacht Club. She and Ed traveled extensively across the USA and Europe, as well as China, Japan and Thailand. Ginny was also a devout member of St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham.

Most of all Ginny was a wonderful, loving wife and mother with a great capacity for empathy, compassion, and kindness. In addition, she was a loyal and thoughtful friend. Ginny believed in the value of holding in mind those to whom she was close and she felt honored to know her true friends deeply as unique individuals. We miss her dearly already.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, July 7th 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham. Funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, July 8th at 10 AM in St. Paul’s Parish, Hingham, followed by burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
