Virginia Marie O'Neil

Virginia Marie “Ginny” O’Neil, formerly a longtime resident of Arlington, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. She was 84.

She was born in Brighton to Mary Gertrude (MacIsaac) and Thomas W. O’Neil. After high school, Ginny attended Boston College and earned her master’s in education. During her time at B.C., Ginny was very active and ingratiated into the community. 

Ginny was a first-grade teacher for 40 years in Somerville before retiring. In her free time, she often volunteered her time with the church. She mostly drove disabled parishioners to and from Mass but was happy to help any way she could. Her devotion and faith were unwavering and admirable. When she wasn’t volunteering, Ginny loved to travel. She visited Italy, Greece, and France. Her favorite travel destination was Ireland, a second home to her. Ginny had many friends that she kept in touch with and treasured her Sunday lunches with them after Mass. 

Loving sister to Patricia Bender and her husband Larry of Buzzards Bay and Thomas O’Neil and his wife Rose of Bedford, NH. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Thursday 12/5/2024 from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at the conclusion of the visitation on Thursday 12/5/2024 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 11 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
