McGAGH, Virginia Marie “Ginny” 80, of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2016.
Born in Dorchester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (McDonough) McGagh, both from Galway, Ireland. Following her early education (grammar through high school) at St. Gregory’s in Dorchester, MA, Ginny matriculated to Regis College, where she received an A.B. (1957) and M.S. (1961) in Elementary Education. Ginny worked for four years at the Boston Public Library, then spent the next 37 years (1958-1994) as a teacher educating a generation’s worth of first graders in the Town of Canton, MA.
Ginny is survived by her brother Bill McGagh of Los Angeles, CA and Chatham, MA; nephew Ken McGagh of Natick, MA; niece Sallie McGagh Delaney of Newton, MA; six grand-nieces and -nephews; and cousins, extended family and friends. Ginny was predeceased by sister Peggy, brothers Thomas and John, niece Margie (McGagh) Piotroski and nephew Brian McGagh.
Arrangements: Visitation will be held on Monday evening, February 22 from 5:00-8:00pm in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, S. Weymouth, MA. Funeral services will be on Tuesday morning, February 23 at 9:30am at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 1130 Washington Street, Weymouth, MA, with family and friends welcome to gather at the funeral home beginning at 8:30am.
At a later date, Ginny will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Chatham, MA, beside her brother Bill’s late wife, Sarah.
