MacDonald, Virginia K. (Garrity) age 85 a 67 year resident of Quincy, died on Monday October 12, 2009 at Milton Hospital after a long illness. Born in Weymouth, Mrs. MacDonald was a 1941 graduate of Weymouth High School and was an enthusiastic cheerleader. During the World War II years she worked at the Fore River Shipyard. She was passionate about sailing and her garden. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling. In her earlier years, Virginia was active in the Squantum Catholic Womens Club and she taught Sunday School at Star of Sea Church in Squantum. Most of all Virginia was a devoted wife and cherished mother to her family. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. The beloved wife of 67 years to John A. MacDonald, Sr. Loving mother of John A. MacDonald, Jr. of N. Quincy, Gary M. and his wife Fran of Winthrop, Clifford J. and his wife Cindy of Pleasanton, CA and Pauline F. Riley and her husband Stephen of Squantum. She is survived by 10 beloved grandchildren, John III, Kristen, Douglas, Gary, Jr. Sara, CJ, Candice, Caitlin, Megan and Craig. Virginia is also survived by 4 great grandchildren. Sister of Eugene Garrity and his wife Edith of North Weymouth. She is predeceased by her parents Michael & Katherine Garrity, a brother Joseph and a sister Eleanor “Bebe” Skowron. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Friday 4-8pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY (Wollaston Section) A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Saturday, prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church , 357 Hancock St., North Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Virginia may be made to Alzheimers Assoc. Mass Chapter, 311 Arnsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
