VIRGINIA “GINNA” M. (MATHEWSON) SNOWMAN, 86, of Weymouth, transitioned home on January 4th, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.  

A Weymouth native and 1945 graduate of Weymouth High School, she was an avid sailor at Wessagussett Yacht Club where as a teenager she met her husband, Roger.   Ginna and Roger later spent their summers on their trawler the “Seneca” at Tern Harbor and travelled the New England Waterways.   She was active in the Weymouth community including serving as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader, a founder of the “Sunday night” yachting winter social group, member of Pilgrim Congregational Church, and the Senior Center Naughty Knitters.  Ginna loved to work with her hands. She taught ceramics for several years and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross stitching. Many of these items were donated to children’s and elder service organizations.  Through her grandsons she also became an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. She retired from Town of Weymouth retirement board several years ago and took up genealogy research creating volumes of family history tracing ancestors back to the Mayflower.  She also raised three overachieving daughters.  

Beloved wife of the late Roger O. Snowman, she is survived by her children, Shirley Richardson married to John Richardson,  Beverly DeMorat and her late husband David DeMorat of Weymouth,  Sally Snowman married to James Thomson of Boston Light and Plymouth.  Grandchildren Kelly Richardson Schofield married to William Schofield of Cumberland Rhode Island, Jennifer Richardson Fluevog married to James Fluevog of Weymouth, David DeMorat and Stephen DeMorat of Weymouth.  One great-grandchild Tori Luhia of Weymouth.  Also survived by two brothers Wilfred (Bub) Mathewson married to Dorothy Mathewson and Donald Mathewson, both of Weymouth, Patti Robson of Weymouth affectionately referred to as her fourth daughter, her cat Sailor Girl, and several other relatives and good friends.  

The family welcomes friends to celebrate her life at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Square) on Friday, January 10 from 3-7 PM. Funeral service celebrated at Pilgrim Congregational Church 24 Athens St., N. Weymouth, Saturday, January 11  at 11 AM. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Weymouth. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Pilgrim Congregational Church, 24 Athens St., N. Weymouth 02191 or Weymouth Elder Services, 182 Green Street, N. Weymouth 02191.
