Virginia E. Doherty

Virginia E. (Kelly) Doherty of North Quincy died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at her home.

Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas J. and Mary (Furlong) Kelly. Virginia was a graduate of Saint Peters School (Dorchester), St. Patrick High School (Roxbury). She worked for the MBTA prior to raising a family, and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the state house after her children were older.

Beloved wife of the late Bernard J. “Bernie” Doherty. Loving mother of Bernard F. (Barney) Doherty and his wife Robin of Tewksbury, William J. Esq. and his wife Dr. Xiao Doherty of Wilbraham and the late Elizabeth V. Sayers and her surviving husband James (Jimmy) of Marshfield, and the late Thomas J. and Francis P. Doherty.  Loving grandmother of Carrie Ann Doherty of Tewksbury, Emily Zheng of Wilbraham and Brianna Elizabeth Sayers of Marshfield.

Loving sister of Thomas Kelly and the late Mary of Brewster. Robert Kelly and his wife Kay of Wollaston and the late Ann Hayes, Paul, William, Francis, John and Charles Kelly.

Loving sister-in-law of Dorothy and the late George Doherty of Waltham, William and Mary Doherty of Squantum, Lorraine Doherty and the late Paul of Foxboro. She was also a sister-in-law to the late Bertha, John and Ann Doherty, Mary Doherty, Edward Doherty and Paul and Sally D’Entremont.

She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Doherty was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy for over 50 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart North Quincy Ladies Sodality and the Catholic Women’s Club of North Quincy.

Her favorite memories were vacationing with her children and grandchildren on Martha’s Vineyard. She also enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, and seeing the girls from the Hill regularly. She was known by all as a very devoted and loving mother and sister who doted on her family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 11 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Virginia may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock St., Quincy, MA 02171.
