Virginia D. Long

Long, Virginia D. (Foye) of Braintree, died March 28, 2016.  

Virginia was born in Quincy and lived most of her life in Braintree, with some time spent in Florida with her husband. She met him before he went off to war and had an engagement ring around her neck that he gave her until he was home to properly propose. They loved to dance and were exceptional ballroom dancers. Virginia adored her family, especially her 7 children. All of their high school graduation photos proudly hung on the wall. She was trained as a registered nurse and served in the Nurse Cadet Corps during WWII. Being very creative, she owned a ceramic business in the 70’s and also a cake decorating business. Virginia enjoyed knitting and was an avid Scrabble player. She was very competitive; never letting anyone win on purpose and would protest if she felt that her opponents were going easy on her. She was a devout Catholic and faith was an important part of her life. Virginia had a strong spirit and was a tenacious woman who knew what she wanted. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Beloved wife of 64 years to the late Frank W. Long Sr. Loving mother of James W. Long of W. Bridgewater, Robert A. Long of CA, Margery A. Long of Braintree, Frank W. Long Jr. of CA, Thomas M. Long of MN, and the late Virginia A. “Val” and Richard J. Long. Cherished sister of John L. Foye of Attleboro and the late James A. Foye Jr. and Barbara M. Adams. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree at 10:30 AM. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
