Vincent Paul Frattasio, 73, of Squantum, a retired Boston Public Schools teacher, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Massachusetts General Hospital. Mr. Frattasio was the son of the late Vincenzo and Lucia (Barra) Frattasio. He was raised in Hyde Park, graduated from Vesper George School of Art, earned a Bachelor’s degree at Massachusetts College of Art, and Master’s degree from Boston State College. He taught art for four decades in the Boston Public School System, splitting service between his alma mater, Hyde Park High, and Boston Latin Academy. He was also a school administrator, guidance counselor, freelance illustrator, art gallery director, art competition judge, and award-winning artist who specialized in watercolor landscapes. He planned the art facilities at Charlestown and West Roxbury high schools, and was a 1991 Golden Apple Award recipient. An avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, Mr. Frattasio was a talented athlete who ran track and played baseball for Hyde Park High. He liked to reminisce about stealing third base and losing a fly ball in the sun when he played right field at Fenway Park for the 1951 Boston Conference Champions in the Eastern State Tournament on graduation day. He went on to coach baseball and soccer in high school, and was a long-time Mass. Track and Field Association official, but was most proud of his 20 years as head coach of the Latin Academy Dragons softball team, a perennial Boston City League champion that helped him earn him Boston Globe Coach of the Year honors. He leaves his wife, Ruth Ann Wetherby-Frattasio (Sterling) of Squantum, sons Marc of Pembroke, Adam, Damian of Pembroke, Christopher of San Diego, CA., Jonathan, Noel, and Seth of Hanover, Christian of Boston, and a daughter, Mara, of Norway. He was the stepfather of John and Ann Marie Wetherby of Quincy. He was the grandfather of Adrianna, Ciarra, Rocco, Max, Roman, Doc, and Storm. He was the step grandfather of Jennifer, Kevin, and Lauren. Mr. Frattasio was the brother of Anna Holmes of Stoughton, Alfred of Halifax, Daniel of Port Charlotte, FL., Lola DiScuillo of New Seabury and Port Charlotte, FL., Louise Saluti of Sandwich, Theresa Lynch of Kingston, the late Frank, Joseph, and Lorraine Marinucci. Mr. Frattasio has donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Harvard Medical School because of the fine care he received from the doctors and staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock Street, North Quincy, on Friday, July 27 at 11:30 AM. All are welcome to attend.
