Vincent Maschio

Maschio, Vincent “Joe” of Marshfield, died on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Plymouth Rehabilitation and Health Care Center following a lengthy case of pneumonia compounded by kidney disease and cardiac failure.  Vincent who was 94 years and 10 months of age was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Vincent Maschio, Sr. who immigrated from Genoa, Italy and the late Josephine Leonardi who immigrated from Lavagna, Italy. 

Vincent grew up in Boston and attended Boston Public Schools through high school and completed one year of study at Boston University before resigning to help support his family during the great depression.  In World War II Vincent Maschio was a Sergeant in Company “C”, 53rd Armored Engineers Battalion of the 8th armored division (the “Tornado” division)  and saw action in Holland, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Czechoslovakia.  Sgt. Maschio was duly awarded the bronze star for Meritorious achievement in clearing a pathway through an enemy minefield whilst under sniper fire during the division’s advance through enemy occupied Holland.  Following the cessation of hostilities, Sgt. Maschio continued to serve the U. S. Army as an interpreter in French and German and was appointed “Burgomeister” (Mayor) in a German Town as part of the American Military Occupation Goverment.  After returning home, Vincent married the late Helen E. Coyle of Dorchester a former defense plant worker at Hood Rubber Co. of Watertown-producer of gas masks and electrically-warmed aviators’ boots.  Vincent himself now began a career as an accountant with the staple Belt Manufacturing Company of Boston.

Vincent is survived by Richard J. Seron of Quincy (nephew), Steven J. Seron (nephew) and wife Marguerite  of Canterbury, NH, by Ann Coyle of Roslindale (niece) and her daughters, Alisa and Christina, by Esther Maschio (sister-in-law) and her daughter Bethany Maschio (niece) of Scituate, as well as daughters: Lisa Hebert of Hummarock (niece) and Karen Maschio of Marshfield (niece) and Karen  Maschio of Marshfield (niece), and by Bradley Glidden of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (nephew).  Uncle “Joe”/ Uncle Vinnie will be proudly and fondly remembered by all!

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday, February 24th, from 9-11 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy at 11 AM. Burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington, MA.
