Vincent A. Murphy

Murphy, Vincent A. of Rockland, formerly of Hingham, died May 27, 2022.

Beloved husband of 53 years to Margaret E. Murphy of Rockland.  Loving father of Brian & Victoria Murphy of Colorado, Maureen Murphy of Connecticut, Pauline Avery and her husband Al of Maynard, Brenda Murphy of Maine and Mark Murphy of Rockland. Devoted Grandfather of Maeve, Declan, Mairead, Colm, Padraig, Zoe, Miles, Eliot, Giovanni and Gabriella.  Also survived by many cherished extended family and friends.

Vincent was born on Achill Island, County Mayo, Ireland, later moving with his family to County Wicklow.  Vincent graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario in his 20’s where he worked as a chartered accountant, and shared rooms with fellow Irish wild geese expatriates, occasionally in dry counties.  In the mid 1960’s he planted his third flag as he moved to the US, to reside in Brookline, MA, where he met his beloved wife Margaret.  On their first date Vincent had Margaret assist in push starting his car.  Two children were born to the young couple in Winchester, MA, before Vincent was transferred to Charleston, West Virginia, where they welcomed three additional children, explaining the varied accents of their progeny.

Admired in three countries, by most he met, Vincent was successful as a husband, father, businessman, and golfer.  Devoted to his wife, brothers, sister, children, grandchildren and friends, Vincent will be greatly missed and warmly commemorated.

Relatives and friends are invited to join us on Thursday, June 2 from 5-8 PM at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM Friday, June 3.  Internment in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Vincent’s memory be made to Play Ball Foundation.  https://www.playballfoundation.org/
