It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Vida Matilda Carrington in the late evening of May 8th, 2024. She was surrounded by her daughter, son, and daughter-in-law.
Vida was born in Christ church, Barbados, on July 13, 1943, to her loving mother Viola Barrow. Vida had a vibrant spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her.
In 1963, Vida married her beloved husband Alfred “Carrie” Carrington. Together they had three wonderful children which she adored and loved very much. She poured her heart and soul into raising her children and provided them with a nurturing and supportive upbringing.
Vida immigrated to the USA in 1970 and enjoyed working most of her life caring for others. Most of her working years, she was employed at Youville Hospital as a CNA. After leaving Youville, she worked at several assisted living homes in the Greater Boston area as CNA, doing what she loved-taking care of others. She made some very good friends wherever she worked.
Vida enjoyed a life of peace and simplicity. She enjoyed going to social activities such as BINGO and day outings at the Kroc Center and at Brookdale Senior Living. When at home she enjoyed spending time outdoors to catch up with neighbors and friends, taking walks, word search puzzles, and talking on the phone with her friends and family.
Last year, Vida was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer and has succumbed to the illness. She is now back in the arms of her husband, and is surrounded by her mother Viola, and grandson Cobee.
Vida leaves behind her son Paul and his wife Teresa, and daughters Suzanne and Cassandra. She also leaves behind sister Stephanie and her husband, Martin, and her Step-son Ronald and his wife, Kimberly. Vida was the loving grandmother to granddaughter, Seville, and grandson, Zion. She also leaves behind brothers Rawle and Alden, and cousins Jean, Ermine, and Yvonne.
Vida will be greatly missed by a beautiful circle of extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday, May 17th from 10AM-12PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
