Veronica B. Kordas

Veronica B. (Murphy) Kordas of Weymouth passed away after a period of illness on August 11, 2023. She was 79 years old.

Born September 26, 1943 in Quincy, MA to the late Charles Leo Murphy and Irene (Finney) Murphy. She was the youngest of four siblings: the late Irene Murphy of Plymouth and Charles Joseph Murphy of Idaho and leaves behind her sister Bernice (Bunny) Ann Murphy of Plymouth. She also leaves behind her cousin Joseph F. Murphy and his wife Ann of Milton. 

Veronica graduated from Fontbonne Academy and Aquinas College in Milton. She worked several years as a secretary before pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse and earning degrees in nursing from Quincy Junior College and Bridgewater State College. She worked at Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Duxbury before moving into public health and many years as a visiting nurse in Plymouth, Kingston, and Duxbury. In 2020 Veronica was honored with an award from the Duxbury Fire Department for her 20 years of services as Town Nurse.

Veronica enjoyed reading, music, theater, swimming, traveling, and spending time with her large extended family. In retirement, Veronica loved visiting with her many friends and beloved neighbors, attending community cultural events, and enjoyed her frequent visits to the Weymouth Senior Center.

Veronica was the wife of the late William Kordas of Boston and Weymouth. She is survived by four step-daughters and their husbands Denise and Denis Concannon of Abington, Donna and William Tolopka of Houston, Debra and Brien Lofgren of Weymouth, and Dana and John Jagielski of Duxbury. Also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She leaves behind dear friends Patricia Kordas, Valerie Lofgren, Marilou Maddalena, Ellie McCarthy, and Brenda and James Jaques of Weymouth.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Wednesday, 8/23 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Veronica may be made to the South Shore Visiting Nurse Association, 30 Reservoir Park Dr, Rockland, MA 02370.
