Triantafillos (Trent) K. Blathras, 91 of S. Weymouth, MA passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, November 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Vresthena Sparta, Greece to Konstantinos and Konstantina (Fotopoulos) Blathras on January 6, 1933. After serving a tour of duty in the Greek Army he traveled to the United States by ocean liner at the age of 27, arriving at the Port of New York on October 26, 1960 with the dream of creating a better life for himself and his future family.
He married Paula Mantalos on April 23, 1961 in Boston. Blessed with two sons, Charlie and John in 1963 and 1965, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to six grandchildren, Rebecca, Mark, Stephanie, Steven, Nicole and Ashley. Forever will he be remembered as a caring and devoted family man.
He started working at Wonder Bread in Dorchester as a baker before moving to Jimmy’s Harborside Restaurant where he served as a Prep Chef for over twenty-five years. He spent his last years running a small office cafeteria with his lifelong friends before retiring to enjoy life.
Trent was a kind-hearted, caring, and loving man, always willing to help someone in need whether known to him or stranger. He had two passions, his family and his genealogy. He spent a lifetime researching his family tree which totals over 8000 names to date. He was proud of and cherished his entire family and would spend countless hours telling them the stories of his childhood and their origins. He was proud to become an American citizen but one who never forgot his roots from Greece. He also enjoyed summering in his hometown Vresthena with his wife and rekindling his old friendships.
He is predeceased by his late brother George and sister Eftixia Blathras of Vresthena. He is survived by his beloved wife Paula (Mantalos) Blathras; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Valerie Blathras of Pembroke, MA; son and daughter-in-law John and Doreen Blathras of Burlington, MA; cherished grandchildren Rebecca Blathras, Mark Blathras, Stephanie (Blathras) Shea and her husband Ryan of Whitman, MA, Steven Blathras, Nicole Blathras, and Ashley Blathras. He is also survived by his brothers William and his wife Nikki of Chicago, IL, Reverend Fr. George and his late wife Christine of Sparta Greece, John and his late wife Aphrodite of Braintree, MA, Leonidas and his late wife Parthena of S. Weymouth, MA and his sister Christine and her husband Anastasios of Clifton, NJ. Also survived by many relatives and friends locally, around the US, Canada. and in Greece. He will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 11/29/2024 from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). and Day, Saturday 11/30/24 from 9-11 AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, 514 Parker Street Boston, MA Immediately followed by funeral services at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, 815 Willard St., Quincy, MA.
