Mr. Timothy F. Daly, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital surrounded by his loving family on February 4, 2025.
Tim Daly spent his life in service to his family, his country, and the education of youth.
His love for education began at St. Mary’s in Quincy and continued on to BC High and Boston College (class of 1953). Graduating with a BS in physics, he proceeded to earn his master’s degree in education, and later added a Certificate for Advanced Studies at Syracuse University. This started Tim’s 37-year career as a secondary school teacher in science, and later as a science supervisor. Tim served as president of several science teachers’ associations, among them the National Science Teachers Association.
Prior to starting his career as an educator, Tim spent 2 years serving our country in the U.S. Army (1955-1957) and then continued his service for 4 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve (1957-1961) while he started his career as an educator.
Tim devoted his entire professional life to high school and collegiate students. Consistent with his teaching duties, he served as faculty advisor and financial counselor to the Key (Kiwanis Educates Youth) Club for Weymouth and Hingham and the New England District for 35 years, and the Collegiate Circle K, serving in an administrative capacity for the latter during a 27-year span. Key Club and Circle K focus on the leadership growth of young men and women and their service toward their respective communities.
Tim’s distinguished career can be summed up with the presentation of two prestigious international awards, 1) the Circle of Service for his service with college students as the New England Circle K Administrator, and 2) the Key of Honor for his service with High school students throughout New England. Tim is one of only three Kiwanians to have been honored with both awards. He was also honored more recently (2020) with the George R. Whitney Leader of Leaders Award. Tim and George worked closely for many years providing leadership for Key Club students all over New England. The inscription on the plaque reads this is awarded to an adult “who brought out the best in youth of the New England and Bermuda District by bestowing upon them trust, responsibility, and challenge of leadership.”
Tim was also granted the status of Life Member by Kiwanis International in grateful recognition of his individual contributions to his Kiwanis club and community.
On top of being an educator and a leader of New England youth through Key Club and Circle K, Tim loved his family and loved spending time with them. Traveling with Jane to visit each of his daughters and their families; vacationing around the world with Jane or spending a week’s vacation with some or all of his immediate family in large rental houses on a lake or the ocean. There was also the traditional family Christmas Eve gathering with Tim’s brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends that were considered family. Tim loved his family and was blessed with a large one, including 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, meeting the most recent addition to his family this Christmas.
Tim enjoyed the last seven years with his wife, Jane, at Fairing Way where they made many new friends and spent wonderful times attending events and activities.
Tim was a devout Catholic and served as an usher at Sacred Heart Church for many years. The family would like to thank the staff at Dwyer Home, Norwell VNA, and South Shore Hospital for the loving care they provided.
