Thomas K. Lydon, Jr, 59, of Hingham, MA, passed away suddenly on January 26, 2024, from complications of a significant head injury received after an accidental fall.
Tom was the son of Thomas K. Sr. and the late Frances T. (Macchia) Lydon of Hingham, MA, brother of Maria Barnes and her companion Norman DiCataldo of Warwick, RI, Julie Kellerman (Dan) of Billerica, MA, and Stephanie Dolly (Hugh) of Bulverde, TX., uncle of Angelina Dolly, Tyler Dolly, and Lily Kellerman, and companion to Kimberly Smith of Weymouth, MA.
Tom was captivated by anything with an engine, especially things that went fast. He had a lifelong fascination with trains. One of his favorite childhood memories was when his beloved grandfather let him steer an MBTA train in Boston. He and his father spent many years tinkering with model trains. He worked as a tradesman. He was very handy, especially with automotive and mechanical systems. Family and friends appreciated his talents and willingness to help with all sorts of repairs and other projects.
Tom loved a good adventure. His passions included riding his motorcycle, racing his red Conquest at Watkins Glen Raceway, skiing, boating, and hunting. He also loved relaxing at the beach, especially in Hawaii and Florida. Tom held a special place in is heart for animals. He often rescued stray cats and dogs adding them to the Lydon family menagerie. We are certain that his beloved dog Cody is happy to be reunited with him. Tom was generous with his time. He enjoyed volunteering for the Magical Moon Foundation, a children’s cancer support group, as a cook, organizer, and financial donor. He also looked forward to volunteering at the Boston Marathon, which he did for many years, including the fateful 2013 marathon of which he is a bombing survivor.
Tom’s smile could light up a room and he always had people laughing. He will certainly be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 3-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
