Manning, Thomas J. of Quincy, died July 5, 2014, he was 89.
The beloved husband of the late Loretta (Fitzgerald) Manning. Cherished father of Dr. Geraldine Manning, Robert “Archie” Manning and David Manning all of Quincy. Brother of Nora Boyle and Helen Wiencek both of Dorchester and the late Mary Daily, Irene Flaherty, Anna Fasano, Margaret Faherty, Patrick and William Manning. Devoted grandfather of Thomas, Laura and Patrick Manning. Longtime companion of Rose Ceriani of Braintree. Thomas is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A proud WWII and Korean war Navy veteran. Thomas was an Executive Board Member of the Sheet Metal Union Local #17- a 40 year active member of local #17. For the last 30 years Tom worked for the MBTA. He was the Past President of the South Shore Widow/Widowers Club as well as the Past President of Retirees Club of Local #17. He enjoyed dancing and was always up to the challenge of a good political debate, when he believed in a cause he stood by his convictions. He was a former member of the Quincy Elks as well as the Knights of Columbus. Tom had a strong work ethic and was very proud of his Irish roots. Above all Thomas was a devoted father who cherished his family, he will be sadly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thomas may be made to Friends for Children, 1157 Adams St., Dorchester, MA 02124.
