Quincy- Thomas J. Fitzgerald 77, teacher and football coach. “Coach Fitz” coached as an assistant at Hofstra University in New York. He was the head coach at Quincy, Stoughton and an assistant at his alma mater, North Quincy High School. Tom was a three- time All-Scholastic center at North Quincy. He was head coach at Newfield and Long Beach High Schools in New York. Also, he was head coach at Austin Catholic in Michigan. The Boston University graduate served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was in the Armed Guard and served aboard Victory and Liberty Ships. He made several Atlantic crossings and twice sailed in to Mermansk, Russia. He is a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks. He is survived by his son, Thomas W. Fitzgerald, a retired Marine Corps officer and airline pilot ofPensacola Beach, Florida. His daughter, Tracey S. Fitzgerald, is aregistered nurse from Vero Beach, Florida, and Therese Green is a homemaker in El Paso Texas. He has three grand children. Jennifer Green is a teacher and recent graduate of University of Texas, El Paso. Catrina Green is a senior at the University of Texas. Thomas Patrick Fitzgerald is in the fourth grade at Pensacola Beach Elementary School and plays roller hockey and soccer. He wants to become a football player like his”Pupa”. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON Friday at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Jerome’s Church, Weymouth at 9 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:30 AM. Donations in memory of “Coach Fitz” may be made to St. Jerome’s Church, 632 Bridge St., Weymouth, MA 02188.
