Buckley, Thomas J. Jr. of Quincy November 6, 2006. Beloved husband of the late Gertrude “Trudy” H. (Wallace) Loving father of Thomas J. Buckley, III of Marina Bay and Deborah B. Hope and her husband Alan of North Andover.Thomas is predeceased by 4 brothers the late Frank, Michael, Harry and Jimmy Buckley. Devoted Grandfather of Michelle Buckley of Boston and Rebecca & Charles Hope of North Andover. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Friday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4- 7 PM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Mr. Buckley may be made to Pine Street Inn, 444 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118. Thomas Buckley was born in New Foundland, Canada and raised in Dorchester. He married Gertrude “Trudy” Wallace on August 22, 1942 in St. Paul’s Church in Dorchester. Tom was a self-employed Industrial Insulator for most of his career. He owned and ran T.J. Buckley & Son in Quincy for more than 45 years retiring back in 1985. Mr. Buckley attended Northeastern University and studied also at Harvard University. He enjoyed community service and politics as well. He was appointed by President Johnson to chair the Quincy Selective Service Board during the Vietnam era. Both he and his late wife Trudy were part of the original founders and Tom later served as President of the local chapter of AARP. Mr. & Mrs. Buckley represented the chapter at a national convention in Memphis, Tennessee. Tom had a passion for politics and was involved in many local campaigns. He managed a campaign for presidential candidate George McGovern. Tom & Trudy were married for 64 years and throughout their marriage they traveled extensively , taken cruises through the Panama Canal. the islands in the Caribbean, Alaska, ports of Russia and the Fjords of Norway. In 1944 Tom received the Pasteur Medal for Distinguished Public Service from the Milk Industry Foundation. Tom was one of the founding members of St. Boniface Church here in Quincy. He was a longtime member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks. Tom was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cribbage. Tom and Trudy were regular theater goers, had season tickets to the Red Sox and Bruins. They enjoyed living in Quincy for 51 years as they both loved the ocean. Tom played the role of Santa Claus for the Gull Point Yacht Club for 18 years, which brought him much enjoyment. Tom died on Monday at Lawrence General Hospital with his children at his side.
