Thomas H. Tingey

Thomas H. Tingey, 84, of Quincy died peacefully with his wife by his side on February 20, 2018 following a period of declining health.

Tom was born on February 10. 1934 in Boston to the late Richard and Mildred Tingey.  He grew up in Quincy as a fourth generation resident.  He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he was a brother in Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  He served in the United States Army.  He was a computer analyst for Harvard University for 25 years – it was a company in whose product he believed.  His retirement was spent researching family genealogy; following college and professional football; and experimenting in the kitchen.

Tom is survived by Susan Tingey of Quincy, his wife of 52 years; Andrea Tingey of New Jersey, his only child; his sisters – Priscilla Seddon of Massachusetts and Florence Tracz of Texas; and extended family.

There will be a private family burial.

His family’s gratitude and appreciation are given to the many medical professionals for the exception care provided to Tom over the last four years.  However, particular acknowledgement is due to the Dr. Carlos Fernandez and the wonderful team at Mass General Hospital who cared for Tom. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in support of the research of Dr. Fernandez.  Checks may be made out to Massachusetts General Hospital c/o Development Office, Attn: Meagan Coons, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114.

• For the checks, all friends and family need to know is make the check out to “Massachusetts General Hospital” and to note “in memory of Thomas Tingey” in the memo line or in an accompanying note. We will note internally that you intend to support Dr. Fernandez’s. I will go through the necessary steps, so that you don’t have to worry about including a specific fund number or description.
