Thomas & Ethan Coffey

Thomas R. “TR” Coffey, age 40, of Quincy, MA (formerly of Boston, MA and Newark, OH) and his young son, Ethan Coffey, age eight, died together in a motorcycle accident on September 22, 2012. Beloved husband of 16 years and son of Dawn M. Querns of Quincy and loving father and big brother of Charlie Coffey of Quincy. They are survived by mother and grandmother Kathleen Carpenter and her husband Glenn Carpenter of Newark, OH; father and grandfather Thomas Coffey of Greenwood, SC; sisters and aunts Kim Ladzinske of Atlanta, GA and Kelley Hackney of Newark, OH; grandmother and great-grandmother Joanne “Sissy” Logan of Newark, OH; parents-in-law and grandparents Jerome “Papa” and Phyllis “Mimi” Querns of Rochester, MI and Mary and Mike Metzger of Groton, MA; and grandparents-in-law and great-grandparents Jack and Margaret Cullison of Warsaw, OH. They are also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends in the Boston area, Ohio, Michigan and Canada. TR was a stay-at-home dad for Ethan’s first nine months of life. He was a patient father who enjoyed playing with his boys and making them the center of his life. A graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design (2004), TR was passionate about his work. He was both creative and technical as a User Experience Architect and Product Designer. He also served active duty for his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged (2000) as a Sergeant E5 Infantry Squad Leader. He was strong, handsome, intelligent, confident and adventurous. Ethan was the type of boy who lit up a room and became the center of attention due to his many interests and passions. An exceptionally creative and inquisitive child, he loved gadgets, technology, and tinkering to understand how things worked. His brother Charlie was his best friend as there was only a 20-month age difference between them. Like his Dad, Ethan enjoyed video games, riding bikes, making movies, building with Legos, reading and his dogs. Ethan had just started third grade at Merrymount School in Quincy and had many friends. He was a beautiful and loving young boy. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday from 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy, MA. A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy, followed by burial in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston. Donations in memory of TR and Ethan may be made to the Ethan Coffey Memorial Fund, c/o Colonial Federal Savings Bank, 15 Beach St., Quincy MA 02170.
