Theresa B. (Mantel) Ganzel, of Hingham, formerly of Floral Park, Long Island, New York, and Germany, died peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023. She was 88 years old.
Theresa was born in Knetzgau, Germany on October 6, 1934. She was raised in Knetzgau and was the daughter of the late Leonard and Pauline Mantel.
Theresa immigrated to the United States in her twenties. She made Long Island, New York her home, and later met her future husband, Hans at the Plattduetsche. They raised their son in Floral Park and moved to Hingham in 2020.
Theresa loved to cook and was famous for her Sauerbraten. She had a green thumb, which was evident by her beautiful “blumen”. She was an adoring Oma and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter. Family was the most important part of Theresa’s life.
Theresa was a strong, honest, hardworking, caring, straight forward, and loving person. Her life lessons and example are part of her legacy that continue through her family. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.
Theresa was the beloved wife of Hans P. Ganzel. The two shared sixty six years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of the late Peter Ganzel and his surviving wife Nancy of Weymouth and the loving grandmother of Amanda Ganzel of Abington. Theresa was preceded in death by her sister. She is also survived by extended family members and friends.
Following cremation, Theresa will be interred privately.
