Teresa Ann Laprade

Teresa Ann Laprade (née Hamilton) was born June 24, 1927 and passed peacefully Jan 8, 2021. She is sorely missed by her 6 Children, 3 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.

Teresa was the daughter of Luella and Richard Hamilton of Amherst. She was President of her Amherst High School Class (AHS ’45) and went on to Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA. She then worked at Amherst College as a Medical Secretary where she met her future Husband, Horace E. Laprade from Easthampton, MA, since deceased. In her later years she worked in the Amherst College Alumni Office.

Teresa participated in the dedication of the Amherst Community History Mural by the Historical Society to fix the West Cemetery where Emily Dickinson is buried. The mural honors the important people of Amherst and their contributions to the town, some famous, some not. Her parents, Luella Flebut, former town assessor, and Richard Hamilton, who owned the Mobil gas station opposite St Bridget’s Church for many years, are featured in the mural.

Teresa lived her final years with her Husband, Horace in Hull, MA near her son, James Laprade, where she loved spending time on Nantasket Beach. Her family appreciated her clever sense of humor and often heard her say “It’s to laugh!”. She loved music and was proud of telling how her music teacher claimed she had ‘near perfect pitch’. She played the clarinet, the saxophone, and everyone loved hearing her play ‘Clair de Lune’ on her prized baby grand piano.

Teresa is survived by her 6 Children, Richard, Terry, James, Bill, John and Ann. Her 3 Grandchildren, Sergio, Alex and Hudson and her Great Grandchild, Oliver.

Teresa can best be described as a person whose heart was made of holidays, she loved spending time with her Family who all miss her greatly, and she will be remembered as a wonderful Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Friend and Neighbor. We celebrate her great life.
