Owens, Tena J. (Oppelaar) of Quincy died peacefully in her sleep on September 25, 2013.
Beloved wife of the late L. Graham Owens of Boston. Tena and Gra bought their first home in Quincy in 1948. They later moved to Dedham in 1959 and retired to Yarmouth Port in 1983. They were happily married for 59 years. Tena returned to Quincy in 2012 to be close to her daughters.
Devoted mother of twins Margaret and Barbara Owens of Quincy, MA and Joanne Owens of Carnation, WA. Sister of the late Ann Burney of Hudson, MA. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Tena was a strong and caring woman. Family vacation often involved road trips through New England and Eastern Canada; frequent picnics and some cottage time in Rockport MA. She was a fine seamstress and particularly enjoyed making clothes for her children. During her years in Dedham she worked for the Dedham Historical Society’s Library. She was especially interested in helping research genealogy questions that were mailed in. At the Yartmouth Port Senior Center, Tena took classes in calligraphy and had a real talent for it. Tena’s main interest was always her family. She was sweet and generous and loved by everyone.
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Tena’s life will be scheduled at a later time. If you wish, you may make a donation to your favorite charity in Tena’s memory.
