Sue Anne (Bechler) Sullivan, of Squantum, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in Quincy. She was 85.
Born in Jamaica, New York, Susie was the beloved daughter of the late Charles J. and Eleanor (McKenzie) Bechler. Sue was raised in Boston nearby her Grandma and Grandpa McKenzie, who hailed from Scotland. She lived among her extended family with her aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sue would go on to graduate from Manchester High School in New Hampshire with the Class of 1953, and after raising her family, Sue went back to school where she earned a degree in fashion design and fashion merchandising from Newbury College in Boston with the Class of 1983.
For many years Sue worked as a Sewing Instructor at the Singer Sewing Machine Company, and later established her own studio at her home in Squantum. For more than 60 years she inspired many to enjoy her craft. She volunteered at 1000 Southern Artery Senior Housing for more than 30 years enthusiastically teaching sewing to the Seniors.
Susie was an avid gardener, she knew all of the botanical names of plants and flowers, and her summer garden by her pool overlooking the Quincy Bay was an oasis. She enjoyed entertaining, taking pictures, living by the ocean and spending time with her family and grandson. As a child, she and her family spent summers on Cape Cod where the whole family lived on the same road all in a row. Sue was very artistic and as a child, she had a piece featured in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Sue’s life lessons, love and example are her legacy that now continue through her children and grandson. Sue devoted her life to her family; she was kind, sweet, selfless, always polite and gracious. She will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched.
Sue’s children and grandson would like to thank the staff at Atrium of Quincy and Celtic Home Care for the tender, loving, and respectful care they provided in the last year of Sue’s life.
Sue was the devoted mother of Kathleen A. Sullivan-Moran, Daniel J. Sullivan and his wife Deborah and Lisa J. Sullivan, all of Quincy. She was the loving grandmother of Matthew M. Moran of Boston and the dear sister of Annette “Cookie” Murray of Abington and the late Charles J. Bechler and his surviving wife Audrey of Oregon and Maine. Sue was a cherished niece of Irene (McKenzie) Seaton of Fairfax, Virginia and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, August 16th 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10 AM on Saturday, August 17th prior to the funeral service in First Church of Squantum, at 11 AM.
Interment is private.
