Stephen R. Matthes

Mr. Stephen R. Matthes, of Weymouth, died December 8, 2021.

Stephen, known by Steve to most, grew up in Quincy. He was a devoted and dedicated son who loved to spend time with his parents and siblings. Even as he grew older he loved going to see his Mom and playing Uno for hours. He grew up going to the Quincy YMCA. He was very involved in YMCA activities, taught archery, and made many friends there.

His first job was a paper route with his sister Monica. Since then he just continued to show how much of a hard worker he was. He worked many years in the restaurant industry and excelled at any job he performed. Starting in fast food as a crew member and ultimately working his way up to district manager, he took this experience and moved to other restaurants, working as a general manager and even a franchisee for one. After his time in the restaurant industry, he worked as a manager for the zoo. Steve was truly an amazing leader. He loved working alongside his coworkers and many became great friends. Even if his hard working tendencies made him a bit stubborn sometimes, making sure things were done correctly – “you gotta have a system!”

Even working so hard he still made time for his family. He was the most incredible Father and Papa. He loved camping as a kid, and passed that love to his children, taking them many times over the years. The only time he would ever take for himself would be to watch the Patriots, he loved to watch his football, eat snacks and yell at the TV. Other than that it was family first. Always putting his family over himself and doing everything he could to provide them with the best life.  A life filled with so much love, laughter, and memories.
