Donovan, Sr. Mary G. of Quincy, formerly of Gloucester, February 4, 2008. Beloved daughter of the late Owen Donovan and Anna (Rooney) Donovan. Loving sister of Virginia Keenan of Roslindale, Frances “Bunny” Otowchits of Framingham, Loretta Keenan and her husband Philip of Quincy and the late Angela Donovan, Elizabeth Kraft, William Donovan and James Donovan. Godmother to Anna McCormick of Dedham. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Sr. Mary Donovan’s life centered around her Catholic faith and her extended family, enjoying family gatherings, and especially summers in Gloucester, where she taught her many nieces and nephews to drive and swim. Sister entered the Order of Franciscan Convent in Allegany, NY at the age of seventeen. She was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and obtained two Master’s degrees from Fordham University. Sr. Mary taught the children of enlisted Marine’s at the Quantico Marine Base. She later taught at a Parochial Grammar School in the Spanish Harlem neighborhood in New York. She concluded her teaching career, after 13 years, at St. Pius V Grammar School in Lynn. Sister was a strong, independent and had a wonderful sense of humor. She took great pleasure in helping others, especially her friends and neighbors at the Hancock House. Sr. Mary was a member of the North Quincy Catholic Women’s Club and a volunteer with the Koch Club. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY, Friday at 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint John’s Church, Quincy at 11:30 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sr. Donovan may be made to St. Elizabeth Mother House, Attn: Sister Rita Frances, 115 East Main Street, Allegany, NY 14706.
