Flate, Sophia (Podlaski) of Scituate, formerly of Quincy, January 25, 2006. The beloved wife of the late George W. Flate, Sr. Loving Mother of George W. Flate, Jr. and his wife Eda of Cape Cod & FL. Florence Garfield of Marshfield and James M. Flate of Boston. Step Sister of Dennis Collins of Milton and Marjorie Harris of Hyde Park. Sophia is predeceased by 3 brothers Peter Podlaski, Joseph Podlaski and Valentine Podlaski and 2 deceased sisters, Alice Bikowski, and Mary Pupek. Devoted grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Monday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Joseph’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 PM. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston. Donations in memory of Mrs. Flate may be made to A charity of your choice. Sophia was born in Everett, MA. She married the late George W. Flate, Sr. During WWII, she volunteered at the American Red Cross. Mrs. Flate raised her family in Weymouth and while working as a medical secretary she also waitressed at Kane’s Restaurant and Coral Gables Restaurant, both located in Weymouth. She moved to Pinehurst Village in Plymouth before moving to Quincy in 1995. While living in Quincy, Sophia was a member of the Heritage Senior Citizens Group as well as a member of 1000 Southern Artery Senior Citizens. Her family remembers her as a talented seamstress, she loved to sew. She enjoyed traveling. She visited Europe, Hawaii and the Carribean.
