Shirley Ann (Duffy) Thornton of South Weymouth, MA, passed away December 29, 2022 after a long illness.
Born December 7, 1936, she grew up in the Point of Pines, Revere, MA, the daughter of the late Charles and Shirley (Teed) Duffy. Shirley Ann (she would insist you remember the “Ann”) is reunited with her beloved husband of 53 years, Jim Sr. whom she has missed since 2011.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Loud of Plymouth, and Melissa Brooks and James Thornton, both of Norwell, and their respective spouses. She was a devoted “G.G.” to five grandchildren, Austin and Emma Loud, Robert Brooks, and Sam and Olivia Thornton.
She was the beloved “sis” to Richard Duffy, the late Charles Duffy, and the late Donald Duffy. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Shirley Ann was a graduate of Lesley University and started the Sharon Lee School in South Weymouth. Over the course of many decades she touched the lives of hundreds of children who passed through her doors. There was nothing she loved more than time spent at her lake house on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire with her close family and friends. Her family will treasure the tradition of her special Christmas Eve nights spent with family and close friends every year. She will be remembered for her independence, warmth and generosity of spirit.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, January 9th, from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
Funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in Faith Community Church, Plymouth, 29A Carver Road, Plymouth. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
