Scott A. Sweeney

Scott A. Sweeney, a lifelong resident of Weymouth, died suddenly while at work on January 20, 2022 at the age of 53.

Scott leaves behind the loves of his life, his wife Katie and daughter Sophie, and beloved stepsons Will and Chris. Son of the late Myles J. “Bud” Sweeney and Dorothy L. (Alexander) Sweeney. Youngest brother of Deborah L. and Donald R. Stewart of Weymouth; Michael J. and Deb Sweeney of Rockland; Rhonda M. and Bruce Baresel of Bridgewater; Cynthia A. and Roy Schwemin of Hanover; Deirdre and Paul Keefe of Kingston; and Gregory M. and Dawne Sweeney of Weymouth. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, his wife’s family and far too many friends to count.

Scott was the neighbor who was always there for anybody who needed anything and loved to swap stories and jokes with anyone who stopped by to talk to him when he was out in the front yard chopping wood.

Scott loved working in his yard and was so proud of his incredible gardens.

Scott had a profound knowledge of wildlife and nature and loved to share his wisdom. He was an experienced hunter, talented skier and loved to hike with his wife and family across New England, especially in the mountains of VT and NH.

Scott adored the Grateful Dead and traveled all over the country when he was a young man to see them in over 120 shows and loved to tell stories of his adventures.

Scott worked on the Mass Pike for over 30 years, first in the toll booths, and in more recent years, as an Emergency Service Patrol  Responder. He was proud to assist the State Police whenever he was called upon and to help any motorist in need on the highway.

Scott was a fantastic chef and loved to cook for a crowd, especially on Patriots game day or grilling out in his beloved back yard.

He and Katie shared a great love for the holidays and always enjoyed hosting family and friends inside their cozy home or out by the large stone fire pit that he built by hand.

Scott was a big guy with a big personality and a big heart and was always happy to see you. He will be enormously missed and loved forever.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the memorial Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington St., Weymouth on Wednesday, January 26 at 10:30 AM.
