Hunt, Samuel N. of Hingham, died July 12, 2012 at Renaissance Gardens in Hingham following a long illness. Age 79, Born in Winchester, graduated from Reading Public Schools. Son of the late Dorothea (Purnell) Hunt and the late E. Norman Hunt. Survived by his wife of 28 years, Virginia Ballou Hunt of Hingham. and her daughter Jennifer Bowles of Marshfield. Predeceased by his first wife Arlene (Levensky) Hunt. Sam was a graduate of M.I,T. with an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering. He initially worked for Raytheon, and then The MITRE Corporation in Bedford MA, for 48 years as a radar systems engineer and analyst. Sam was an avid sailor. His happiest hours were spent on his 34’ sloop “April Fool”. He and his first wife Arlene owned and ran Salt Water Sailors, a sailing school based in Scituate during the 1970’s. He made many off shore passages and sailed the Bermuda Race in 1981. Sam held various offices in the Minuteman Power Squadron and taught Celestial Navigation for many years. He was a member of the Boston Navigators Club and a long standing member of the Masterworks Chorale singing under the direction of Alan Lannom. Sam was an animal lover who for many years with wife, Arlene, bred Persian cats. Sam was a U.S. Army Reserve Veteran. A Memorial Service and celebration of the life of Samuel N. Hunt will be held in Old Ship Church, Main Street, Hingham on August 11, 2012 at 11am. Donations in memory of Samuel may be made to WGBH, 1 Guest Street, Brighton, MA 02135.
