Mrs. Ruth K. (Steen) Norton, a resident of Quincy, passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 82.
Ruth began her professional journey right after high school at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston. Most notably, she served as a paraprofessional at Snug Harbor Community School in Quincy for over 20 years until her retirement. However, her most cherished role was that of a devoted mother to her three children.
Ruth exemplified the spirit of volunteerism, dedicating her time to various organizations including Snug Harbor School, St. Boniface Church, and the Germantown Neighborhood Center. Until her health began to decline, she was also an active member of the Morrissette American Legion Auxiliary Post #294, where she held the position of Chaplain.
She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence M. Norton, with whom she shared fifty-two wonderful years of marriage before his passing on October 20, 2020.Ruth is survived by her loving children: Pamela Norton and her partner, Glenn Hermanson, Michael Norton and his wife, Julie, all of Quincy, and Kevin Norton and his wife, Tara, of Braintree.
She was a cherished Nana to her grandchildren: Mikey, Corbett, Shea, and Leary.
She is also survived by her sister, Jacqueline Surratt of Colorado, as well as the late Rev. Raymond Steen, OMI, and Russell Leary and his wife, Ann, of Quincy. Additionally, she was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph Steen and his wife, Nancy, and Patricia Steen.Ruth leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visiting hours on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, located at 785 Hancock St., Quincy.A Celebration of Life Service will take place in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Parish at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Quincy at 10:00 AM.
Burial will follow at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Snug Harbor Community School, 333 Palmer St., Quincy, MA 02169.
