Ruth Allen Cameron

Cameron, Ruth Allen, of Quincy, died May 11, 2013, in the loving care of her husband.

There were two things that gave Ruth enjoyment in her life; teaching and cooking.  In fact, her pie of the month club auction item was one of the perennial favorites for the college auction.  She also led an Adult Bible Study group at Wollaston Church of the Nazarene for 35 years, which gave her much spiritual nourishment and many close friends.  An honors graduate of Eastern Nazarene College, she later obtained her Masters and Doctorate degrees from Boston University.  She taught at Eastern Nazarene College for over 40 years, and was honored by being named to the Munro Professor of Literature endowed chair.  She was a role model to many young women who admired her career path and sought her advice as they ventured out on their own.  She will be remembered for her kindness, hospitality, and gracious personality.  Family was also important to Ruth and she took much delight in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Many of them have warm memories of baking cookies with her in the kitchen.  She also loved to travel, and traveled extensively to Europe over the years with her husband and other friends.

Beloved wife of James R. Cameron of Quincy.  Loving mother of James A. Cameron and his wife Diane of Bedford, and Laura Spencer and her husband Rev. George of PA.  Sister of Alison Ross of ME, Cynthia Swing of MD, and the late Dr. Willis and Edwin Allen.  Cherished grandmother of Mark Spencer, Donald Cameron and Elizabeth Cole, and great grandmother to Wesley, Lorraine and Sebastian Cole.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.  A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 AM in Wollaston Church of the Nazarene, 23 E. Elm Avenue, Quincy. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Lisbon Falls, ME on Thursday at 1:30 PM.  Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Eastern Nazarene College Scholarship Fund, 23 E. Elm Avenue, Quincy, MA 02170.
