Russell R. Jalbert

Jalbert, Russell R. of Hingham, died September 13, 2014.  He was 95 years old.

Mr. Jalbert was born in Springfield, MA, educated in Greenfield, MA and attended Providence College, graduated from Brown University and the University of Chicago with a Masters in Humanities.  His interests included art, literature, history, sailing, and flying (he flew a helicopter at age 93).  He felt his greatest accomplishment was the work that he did helping refugees while serving as the Project Director for the United States Refugee Resettlement Program.  Mr. Jalbert thought on a global basis and was always seeking knowledge on how to improve our world.  His career included service at Esquire Magazine, Advertising and Public Relations firms, work at colleges including Vice President of Boston University as well as government work at the Social Security Administration and the Refugee Resettlement Program.  His honors and accomplishments were numerous including awards in the field of  Public Relations, Education, and Social Work.  He co-founded the Newport Jazz Festival, established PTSD Guidlines for refugees and was the founder and editor of “Life@Linden Ponds,” a magazine for residents.  He has authored and co-authored three books ranging from art, to history and his refugee work.  A proud WWII Veteran, he served his country in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1945, where he developed his passion for flying.  Of all his accomplishments, his legacy will be of his late wife Lois and the four children they raised together.  He will be remembered as a humanist, a scholar and a gentleman.  His listening skills were second to none and he lived his life with dignity.

Beloved husband of the late Lois (Clements) Jalbert.  Loving father of Russell D. Jalbert and his wife Bekke Koehler of NJ, Pamela J. King and her husband Donald of Weymouth, John B. Jalbert of Brockton, and Ned Jalbert and his husband Keith Ravaioli of Westborough.  Cherished grandfather of Ted and Lissa King of Weymouth.  Son of the late Francois X. Jalbert and Laura (Dufresne) Jalbert.  Brother of the late Raymond, Donald, and Venita Jalbert. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM in Second Parish in Hingham, 685 Main Street, Hingham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, c/o Russell R. Jalbert Memorial Gift, Avenue of the Arts, 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
