Rosemary J. Downey

Downey, Rosemary J. of Quincy, died May 11, 2013 after a long illness.

Beloved daughter of the late Helen P. and Edward J. Downey.  Cherished sister of Susan Downey and her partner Loretta Butehorn of Dorchester,  Kathleen D. Ingley of Albuquerque NM,  Edward J. Downey and his wife Pamela of Plainville, John B. Downey and his wife Kathleen of Wollaston. Aunt of Erin Moran and her husband John and Michaela Downey.  Great aunt to Jacob Moran.  Lifelong friend of Elizabeth Sims and Vincent Whelan who were always by her side.  Rosemary is also survived by many wonderful and caring friends.

Rosemary was born in Boston and lived in Quincy her entire life.  She was a graduate of Archbishop William’s High School and Catherine Larboure School of Nursing.  Rosemary was a dedicated nurse at Children’s Hospital in Boston for 30 years before retiring..  Her coworkers remember Rosemary as a nurse who brought  strong clinical expertise, knowledge and empathy to the role of nursing. She absolutely loved and enjoyed the many children and their families that she cared for at Children’s Hospital over the years. She was a generous person with a great sense of humor. Rosemary enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to music and dancing.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 11AM. Cremation will follow.
