Mrs. Rosalie Ann Barry, 68, formerly of Quincy, MA and West Pittston, PA died Thursday, March 30, 2006 at East Longmeadow, MA with her family by her side. She and her late husband, Richard C. Barry were united in holy matrimony on April 28, 1962 at West Pittston, PA. Mr. Barry preceded Rosalie Ann in death in March of 1997. Born August 25, 1937 at Kingston, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. Rhodes and Rosalie Winters. Upon graduating with honors in her class from West Pittston High School in 1955, she received an R.N. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1958. She was one of six national scholarship winners to be awarded a scholarship to attend Columbia University, NY, where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in June 1962. Continuing her education, she received her MBA from Anna Maria College, Paxton, MA, gaining top honors in 1988. Her nursing career included working at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Jefferson Hospital (PA), Children’s Cardiac Unit at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital (NY) and Director of Health Services for Quincy (MA) Public Schools until her retirement in June, 2003. She was an avid reader, while also being active in the following areas: President of the Quincy Merrymount PTO, Vice President of the Quincy Youth Hockey League, volunteer for the American Red Cross, and adjunct professor at Anna Maria College and Quincy Community College. Mrs. Barry was a communicant at both Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Longmeadow and Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church of East Longmeadow. Surviving Rosalie Ann are her daughter, Christine Barry of Newport, RI, and her three sons, Michael Barry of Huntingdon Beach, CA, Timothy Barry and wife Mary, of Longmeadow, MA and Sean Barry and wife Shelley, of Taunton, MA and two grandsons, Ryan Barry and Keegan Barry. In addition, she is also survived by her sister Charlotte H. Zalonis and husband, John J. of South Williamsport, PA; nephews Dr. Jason Zalonis, Brett Zalonis, and Richard Zalonis. There are also a number of aunts, two grand nephews, one great niece, and numerous cousins surviving. Funeral Services and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am, Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 800 West Central Avenue, South Williamsport, PA. Father Thomas G. Sinnott will be the celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday evening, April 3, 2006 from 7-8:30 pm and from 10-11 am on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 East Central Avenue, South Williamsport, PA 17701. Interment will be made at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, PA. The family will provide the flowers. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Rosalie Ann Barry may be made, if so desired to The Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, April 6th, 2006 from 4-8 pm at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02170. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7 PM.
