Rosa (Maymir) Trinchet

Rosa (Maymir) Trinchet, of Quincy, MA, died on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by loved ones. She was 82.

Born in Havana, Cuba on September 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Federico and Adolfina (Romay) Maymir. Having lost her father when she was 6 years old, Rosa sacrificed her dreams of becoming a teacher to start work at an early age to help support her family. At 21 she was the first in her family to leave Cuba, a country she would always keep in her heart, in search of a better life. She spent several years on her own in Costa Rica, while continuing to support her family and assisting in their subsequent efforts to leave Cuba. She eventually moved to Puerto Rico, where she met her husband and raised her two children. Later she moved to Cincinnati to join extended family and to help care for her grandson, Chris. Never shying away from an adventure with her grandchildren, she enjoyed hiking in the Smokies and ziplining in salt caves with them. She was a kind, patient, and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, and never one to speak in anger. Rosa lived by the motto that no matter where you find yourself, your neighbor is your friend, and you look out for each other. She was well-loved for her kindness, quick wit, and sense of humor by friends in Cuba, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Cincinnati, and Quincy. She was a lifelong avid reader in Spanish, English, and French, and a defender of public libraries.

Rosa was the beloved wife of the late Guillermo B. Trinchet, with whom she shared 50 years of loving marriage. She was the devoted mother of Marta M. Trinchet of Ohio, and Guillermo D. Trinchet and his wife Jody of Hingham. Rosa was the loving Abuelita of Theodore Christopher Piercy of Ohio, and Clare and Ryan Trinchet, both of Hingham. She was preceded in death by her brothers Federico and Jorge.

Following cremation, a private Funeral Mass and interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Rosa’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to your local public library.
