Ronald Allendale Ignatius Tench, Sr., affectionately known to his family as “Dan”, was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
Dan was born in Belize, British Honduras – which is now known as Belize City, Belize. He graduated from St. Michael’s College, Belize in 1942 and from Wesley College in 1944, majoring in mathematics and Spanish. He immigrated to the United States in 1958 and became a U.S. Citizen in 1963. He loved traveling with the family on road trips, especially to Cape May, New Jersey and Nova Scotia, Canada. His favorite hobby was fishing and his favorite sports were boxing, soccer, cricket, bowling, track and field and baseball. Known for his in control demeanor, feisty personality and stubbornness, he still had a willingness to help others and will be remembered most for his love of family. He especially enjoyed getting to know people from all walks of life. Dan was baptized in 1974 and served diligently as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Dan will be greatly missed, leaving an empty space in our lives that will never be filled.
He was the adored husband of 65 years to Phyllis Ann Rebecca Tench of Dorchester, and loving father of Ronald A. I. Tench, Jr., (deceased), Joan Elizabeth Tench of Dorchester, Marcia Tench-Mora and her husband John Mora of Dorchester, Phyllis Tench White and her husband Bruce of Malden, the cherished son of the late Selwyn and Amy (Longsworth) Tench, and loving brother of Rita Robateau and her husband Carlos of Dorchester, Bertram Tench of England, Louis Tench and his wife Pam of Mattapan. Three siblings preceded Dan in death: Rae, Frank and Jim Tench.
He was the devoted grandfather (Papa) of Davicia Neves and her husband Jonathan of Holbrook and great-grandfather to Elijah, and is survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
