Ronald Leo Gasper, of Hingham, formerly of Bellingham, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, after a long and valiant battle against cancer. He was 80 years old.
Ron was born in Port Washington, Wisconsin on September 10, 1943, and was the son of the late Leo Michael and Lucille Anne (Krier) Gasper. Ron grew up on the family farm in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. He graduated from the La Salette High School Seminary in Olivet, Illinois in 1962.
After graduation, Ron attended classes at the University of Wisconsin—Sheboygan and operated equipment in the construction trade. Ron served in the United States Army, in active duty from 1964 through 1966, and thereafter in the Army Reserve. During his active duty he was stationed in Bad Kissingen Germany for 18 months. Both during his service and after his discharge from active duty, he enjoyed traveling and seeing as much of Europe as possible. Ron was very proud of his service in the Army and always had a soft spot for veterans in need.
After his discharge from service, Ron worked in various construction and civil engineering capacities. Ron spent approximately 15 years as a field supervisor for Heath Consultants, working with over 100 gas and water companies throughout the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Barbados. Ron particularly enjoyed the two years he spent living and working in New Zealand and Australia. Ron retired from the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority in 2019 after 32 years of service as a water resource engineer.
Ron was the beloved husband of the late Linda A. (Quinlan) Gasper who he married on February 28, 1976. He was the devoted father of Ryan L. Gasper (Renee) of Bellingham, Michael R. Gasper (Jill) of Richmond, VA, Trevor Q. Gasper (Susie) of South Bend, IN, and Tyler J. Gasper (Ashley) of Halifax along with his bonus daughter Nicole (Morin) Erickson of Arizona.
Ron was the proud and loving grandfather of nine—Cierra, Kelley, Amethyst, Leo, Nicolas, Cameron, Emma, Julianna, and Violet. He was the dear brother of Dennis Gasper (Judy) of Plymouth, WI, Judy Anzia (Paul) of Belgium, WI, Dori Sperhake (Kurt) of Ft. Myers, FL, Scott Berres (Bernie) of Plymouth, WI, Brenda Frasier Drew of Fond du Lac, WI, Ernie Frasier (Terri) of Sheboygan, WI. Ron was preceded in death by his sister Bonnie Somerford. Ron is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Ron was selfless. Ron was patient beyond belief, and he was kind to a fault. He loved a good laugh and a good story. His family meant everything to him, and he was everything to his family. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith. We take solace in knowing he has been rewarded for his goodness.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Cremation will follow. Interment is private.
