Ronald Ernst Diener, 76, of Dorchester, MA, died suddenly Thursday, December 5, 2013.

He was born in Sheboygan, WI, August 13, 1937, to the late Margaret and Ernst Diener.  He graduated from Northwestern College (B.A.), University of Missouri, Columbia (M.A.), Concordia Seminary (B.D./M.Div.), University of Illinois (M.L.S.) and Harvard Divinity School (Th.D. in Reformation History, 1978).

Ron was a librarian who loved reading, playing bridge, and politics.  His library career included the Foundation for Reformation Research, St. Louis, MO; Boston Theological Institute, Cambridge, MA; Widener Library at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; Tantur Ecumenical Institute, Jerusalem; OHIONET, Columbus, OH; Jackson Hole Historical Center (where he authored several history books), Jackson, WY; and the Supreme Court Library of North Carolina, Raleigh, NC.

Ron is survived by children Michael Diener of Needham, MA; Andrew Diener of Los Angeles, CA; Maribeth Diener of Dorchester, MA; Leigh Anne and Joel Diener of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren; and brothers John Diener of GA and David Diener of WI.  He was preceded in death by brothers James, Robert, and Richard Diener.

A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2:30pm at The Meetinghouse at Andover Newton Theological School, 210 Herrick Road, Newton Centre, MA 02459.
